Designed in a 1960s modernist style, the mausoleum also contains the tomb of his sister, Māder-e Millat ("Mother of the Nation") Fatima Jinnah, and that of Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. The mausoleum was completed in 1970, and is an iconic symbol of Karachi.Well architects in Pakistan have great ideas and are well known in the world yet we are restricted by our society due to a number of reasons.Pakistani architects are unable to work onto something outstanding in our own country yet their creativity and innovation are well reputed in cities like London etc where they are workin on mass urban planning. Architects from India are by far the best in Indian Subcontinent and some of the best in the world.
Around the mausoleum there is a park fitted with strong beamed spot-lights which at night project light on the white mausoleum.
The only reason why Yahya Merchant was handed over the project was due to forceful internvention in the design competetion by Jinnah sister who wanted the same architect to design his brothers mausoleum who designed their Residency at Bombay. Lotus Temple and Akshadham Temple are world class landmarks in architectural creativity.
I have the picture of the model that was created by the Pakistani architectural firm that got selected for this Mausoleum yet on Fatima Jinnah's insist the architect was changed. On the hindsight, just be thankful that Jinnah Mauseleum is created by an Indian and no other.
In the interior of the grave complex, there are three graves in a row and one to the north.
The northern one, which is decorated with a series of black floral design at the base, belongs to Miss Fatima Jinnah, Quaid-e-Azam's sister.
